Burma’s Ministry of Information has announced that three separate bombing incidents in Rangoon over the past week followed the same pattern. It says local authorities are “working relentlessly” to find the culprits.

Devices have exploded recently at three different locations across Rangoon, officially known as Yangon. Two bombs exploded at the Ocean Supercentre in Mayangone on 17 November, with another three on Sunday, 20 November, at the Capital Hypermarket in Dawbon Township. Then yesterday, four bombs exploded at the Immigration Department in South Dagon Township.

No casualties were sustained during any of the incidents.

A local policeman in South Dagon told DVB that all the explosives used at the immigration bureau blast were homemade: three glass bottles stuffed with chemicals and gun powder. A fourth bottle failed to explode and was disposed of by controlled detonation.

Reuters reported this morning that the explosive materials were planted in a toilet at the immigration bureau and inside a nearby garbage bin.

It also cited locals saying that, following the explosions, they were worried about their safety in downtown Rangoon.
