Villagers from Tenasserim Division have taken their battle against a Thai-owned mine all the way to the Supreme Court.
Output from a tin mine in Wa State is falling sharply and deposits could be depleted in “two to three years”, said senior mine officials.
The warnings come after mining operations were suspended last October for several months following a mudslide that killed at least 28 people.
According to local sources in Mawchi, several homes were also destroyed in the devastation, leaving locals without food, shelter or clothing.
