15-yr-old abducted in Rangoon

A high school student in Rangoon has been abducted by a group of unknown men whilst walking to school, eye-witnesses have reported.

Police are reportedly looking for Moe Win, 15, who was forced into a truck as he walked through the Yuzana Garden City Housing Estate in New Dagon township on Wednesday morning.

Three men are believed to have carried out the abduction, but eye-witnesses said that there were three other juveniles in the truck.

“On the road at the intersection with the estate, a [Toyota] Publica truck carrying about three adult males pulled up and nabbed him. It happened in front of 10 to 15 bystanders,” said a teacher at his school. “It was around 5:30am [on Wednesday] as he walked down to the school.”

“Teachers here are saying it was a military recruitment,” he continued. “There were three other kids in the truck but they were not in school uniform.

His teachers were also trying to find clues about him until around 7pm [Wednesday] but they had no luck. Everyone assumed it is very likely that he was taken by the army. He is only 15 years old.”

Police are yet to find any information about the abduction – the Burmese military is regularly accused of kidnapping children into the army, and a Human Rights Watch report in 2002 said there could be as many as 70,000 underage troops in service.
