Administrator killed in Thingangyun bank robbery

Apr 11, 2008 (DVB), A bank robbery at Thingangyun township's Myanma Economy Bank on Tuesday left the bank administrator dead and an accountant injured, according to township police.

An officer on duty at Thingangyun township said police are still trying to trace the robbers who made off without any money after fatally stabbing the bank administrator.

"We are still working hard to catch the culprits," the police officer said.

"The administrator died of a stab wound from a sharp object and accountant U Aye Kyaing who was injured is now at Thingangyun hospital."

A bank official at the Myanma Economy Bank in Thingangyun refused to talk about the robbery but confirmed the bank is still open for business as usual.

"Our bank is still open on the instructions of our superiors," said the bank official.

Rangoon residents said news about the bank robbery had spread in the former capital the following morning but no reports appeared in newspapers.
