Move Forward Party (MFP) leader Pita Limjaroenrat held a victory rally in northern Thailand, visiting Chiang Mai, Lamphun and Lampang provinces on June 14-15. The Prime Minister-in-waiting had thousands of supporters attend his rally at Tha Phae Gate in Chiang Mai on June 15 and line his motorcade route as it made its way toward the northern suburbs of San Sai District, where many families from Myanmar have found safety and security in Thailand. In his election victory speech on May 15, Pita said that as Thai Prime Minister he would work to establish a humanitarian corridor into Myanmar with the assistance of the international community and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). “With the proximity of Thailand and Myanmar – whether you call it an asset or liability – without Thailand’s presence, the Five-Point Consensus will not be achieved,” he added. Pita’s MFP won 152 seats in the Thai parliament. It received a total of 14,233,895 votes in the 2023 election. Pita is expected to be named Thailand’s 30th prime minister.
