Dec 10, 2008 (DVB), Detained blogger Nay Phone Latt has said he feels a greater sense of responsibility since being honoured by international media association Reporters Without Borders, his mother told DVB.

Nay Phone Latt was awarded the Reporters Without Borders prize in the cyber-dissident category last week along with comedian and activist Zarganar.

Aye Aye Than, Nay Phone Latt's mother, said he had found out about the award from prison officials.

"I thought he still didn't know about the RSF award when I visited him in prison but he said he had found out about it from prison officials and had celebrated by treating his fellow inmates to snacks," Aye Aye Than said.

"He said he now has a greater responsibility since he was chosen for the award," she said.

"I’m happy for my son and I think the award will raise awareness of the unfair trials in Burma that are putting young people in prisons."

Aye Aye Than said the family is allowed to visit Nay Phone Latt twice a month for 45 minutes each time.

Prison officials have also allowed family members to give him blankets and jumpers as the weather is getting cold in Pha-an.

Nay Phone Latt, a blogger and internet café owner, came to prominence during the Saffron Revolution in September last year when his blog became an important source of information on the protests.

He was arrested in January this year and was jailed for 20 years and six months under the Electronic Act in November.

He is currently serving a 20-year prison term in Pha-an prison along with Thant Zin Aung, Pyi Phyoe Aung, Ko Ko Latt and Maung Maung Oo, who are also political prisoners.
