Third suspect detained in case of Eleven reporter’s murder

Yesterday, police arrested a third individual in relation to the murder of Eleven Media reporter Soe Moe Tun in Monywa. The latest suspect is a male truck driver in the Monywa logging industry, which Soe Moe Tun covered during his time at Eleven. Police have declined to provide any additional information while carrying out interrogations.

Previously, authorities had detained two employees of a Monywa KTV and were holding them for questioning.

“We remanded and interrogated the two KTV employees from 19 December to 2 January. We’ve now remanded them a second time while we conduct additional questioning,” Police Lieutenant Thein Swe Myint from the Monywa Police Station told 7Day.

Authorities say that so far, they have interrogated over 40 suspects in relation to Soe Moe Tun’s death.

Soe Moe Tun was found dead on Pyidaungsu Road in Monywa city’s Aung Chan Than quarter at 12:20am on 13 December. He had two head wounds and a swollen forehead, and his left eyebrow was split open.

Before his death, Soe Moe Tun focused on illegal logging and KTV operations in Monywa and the surrounding areas.

The case is being investigated by a special unit made up of officers from the Monywa district police force, Monywa township police force, and the Criminal Investigation Department.
