Mar 13, 2008 (DVB), A funeral for the popular singer Sai Htee Saing, who died on Monday, was held at Rangoon’s Yay Way cemetery at around 5pm yesterday and attended by thousands of his fans.

The funeral was organised by the well-known singer Bo Phyu, who rose to fame covering Sai Htee Saing’s songs in the late 1990s.

Daw Khin Than Soe, Sai Htee Saing's wife, told DVB the funeral was also attended by well-known faces from Burma’s film, literary and music worlds.

A Sai Htee Saing fan who went to the funeral said around 100,000 people in total went to the cemetery yesterday to bid farewell to the much-loved singer.

"There were about 100,000 people in total, but only five people are allowed to go in to the cemetery at a time," said the fan.

"People have been going in and out all day."
