Resplendent in golden robes and projecting an image of royalty, Burma’s new leaders officially took their seats last week. President Thein Sein was joined by his two deputies, Tin Aung Myint Oo and Dr Sai Mauk Kham, as they took oath of office in the gleaming new parliament, but observers looked on warily: many doubt that this is a legitimate transition, for Thein Sein has been behind many of the junta’s dirty tricks and his colleagues in the cabinet are painfully familiar to many Burmese.
