UK has slashed aid to Rohingya by 85 percent since 2020

FROM THE DVB NEWSROOM

The U.K. will only provide £3 million ($3.7 million USD) in humanitarian aid to Rohingya refugees and host communities in Bangladesh. This is an 85 percent decrease since 2019-2020 when aid reached £16.9 million ($21 million USD), states Burma Campaign UK, which called on the British government to reverse the aid cuts.

“The government is clearly not looking at [the] need when they are allocating aid to [the] Rohingya. Over one million people, the majority of whom are children, are at risk of severe malnutrition and even death,” said Karin Valtersson, the campaigns officer at Burma Campaign UK. Nearly one million Rohingya have sought sanctuary in Bangladesh from persecution and genocide in Burma.
